The Northwest Area for Special Olympics Iowa provides competition for athletes in the Iowa counties of:
- Cherokee
- Crawford
- Ida
- Lyon
- Manona
- O’Brien
- Osceola
- Plymouth
- Sioux
- Woodbury
The Northwest Area hosts competitions in:
- Basketball Skills (held annually in January in Sioux Center at Dordt College)
- Spring Games (held annually in April in Sioux Center at Dordt College)
- Bowling (held annually in October in Sioux City at Plaza Bowl and LeMars at Sweet Sixteen)
