Ever been curious about this famous Special Olympics fundraiser? The Polar Plunge® is a signature fundraiser for Special Olympics that offers a unique opportunity for individuals and organizations to raise money and support Special Olympics Iowa athletes by jumping into frigid waters. Polar Plunges are held across the state of Iowa in the fall and spring. The West Des Moines Polar Plunge will be held Saturday, November 5 at the Jordan Creek Town Center.
Premier Statewide Partner Lincoln Savings Bank is presenting the event for the second year in a row. Volunteers from LSB will be on hand all day to help the Plunge run smoothly and to provide guests with giveaways and fun activities.
Immediately following the Plunge, participants and guests can stay warm and enjoy fun, food, drink, music, a silent auction and drawings at the post-party. Lunch can be purchased for spectators at registration for $10 (ages 5 and under free).
Getting involved with the West Des Moines Polar Plunge or other Plunges across the state is easy! Each individual participant must fundraise a minimum of $75 in order to plunge the day of the event. You can setup a Firstgiving fundraising page online to register and collect donations or mail in a registration form. For every $75 raised, your name will be entered into a raffle for a door prize drawing the day of the event.
You can bring donations to an early check-in event or with you on the day of the Plunge to collect your official Plunge long sleeve T-shirt, door prize ticket(s)* and purchase any additional post party meals for spectators. A waiver must be signed prior to plunging by all plungers, or by a parent/guardian for those under 18.
Costumes are also encouraged for the day of the Plunge. Costume prizes will be awarded after the Plunge to the best individual and team costume, top individual fundraiser, top online fundraiser and top “Chicken” fundraiser. A “Chicken” fundraiser registers as a chicken and raises funds, receives a chicken T-shirt and prizes and then watches the Plunge.
