Summer Games Volunteer Registration is Open Iowa State University, Ames
May 23-25, 2013
Special Olympics athletes will compete in soccer, cycling, tennis, track and field, swimming, and developmental events.To volunteer, please select the day, time, event, and job you would like. **Due to Iowa State's new policy all volunteers will be screened for sex offender violations. Please mark yes or no on the form.

2013 Birdies for Charity
Special Olympics Iowa is proud to annouce our participation in the
2013 Principal Charity Classic's Birdies for Charity Program!
The Birdies for Charity® program is a fundraising vehicle through which participating organizations solicit pledges from supporters based on the number of birdies made by PGA Champions Tour players during the three-day Principal Charity Classic. Participating organizations will keep 100% of the pledges collected on their behalf.
Participants can either make a one-time flat donation (minimum $25), or a pledge of $0.05 or more for each birdie made by Champions Tour players during the 2013 Principal Charity Classic (May 31 - June 2).

Special Olympics Iowa welcomes retired Navy Admiral Hal Pittman as President and CEO
The Special Olympics Iowa Board of Directors has named retired Navy Rear Admiral Hal Pittman as its next president and CEO after a nationwide search.
“We are absolutely thrilled to announce Hal Pittman as the next president and CEO of Special Olympics Iowa,” stated Chick Herbert, SOIA Board chair. “Hal is the ideal individual to lead our great organization forward. He possesses tremendous leadership skills, passion and strategic vision that will position us for continued growth for years to come. Hal has demonstrated success at every stage of his distinguished career, and he will bring fresh perspective and innovative ideas to the Special Olympics movement.”

Apply to be a part of the 2014 National Games!

The Special Olympics 2014 USA National Games will be held June 14 – 21, 2014 in New Jersey. SOIA athletes and coaches are invited to apply to be part of Team Iowa. Sports team Iowa will participate in include aquatics, athletics, bocce, bowling, golf, powerlifting, tennis and team softball. Both athlete and coach general applications are available HERE. The applications are due to Rhonda Schwarzkopf by 06/01/2013.

Special Olympics Iowa (SOIA) is a nonprofit organization that serves athletes with intellectual disabilities in all 99 counties of the state. Iowa has 11 areas throughout the state that serves nearly 11,000 athletes, participants and Unified Sports Partners annually.
Since 1968, Special Olympics Iowa has been serving the needs of children and adults with intellectual disabilities by providing sports training and competition in 23 Olympic-type sports. These programs would not be possible without the generous support of more than 15,000 volunteers.
