Special Olympics Iowa wants to ensure that all athletes have a fair opportunity to qualify for and compete at the state swimming competition. Therefore all athletes who participate in swimming will be required to compete in an area competition in order to qualify for the state meet in Ames, just like athletes in track and field do. Athletes who compete in swimming but are in areas that do not offer a swimming competition will compete in a neighboring area.
The following is a breakdown of where area swimming competitions are held and which areas will compete in them:
