(L) Ted, Angela, & Al Oberlander
(R) Angela Oberlander ready for RAGBRAI

Riding the 42 miles between Milford and Emmetsburg on RAGBRAI this week SOIA athlete Angela Oberlander said, "It was awesome!"  Highlights of the ride included meeting people, seeing all the bikes and decorations on the bike helmets, and seeing people dressed in costumes, including a cow! This was the first time Angela and her parents, Al and Ted Oberlander were part of the big adventure and they would like to do it again.  Angela road on a tandem bike with her father and said with a chuckle, "I had to ride extra hard to help get me and dad up the hills."

Iowa will be represented by:
Lisa Spencer (Candeo in Johnston) &
Patrick Gulbranson (Family Resource Center in Fontanelle)

Special Olympics Iowa Housing Policy, Effective 2014

The health and safety of all Special Olympics participants is of paramount importance to Special Olympics Iowa.  Participants should feel that every Special Olympics event is a safe and positive experience and should not be fearful of other athletes, coaches or volunteers.

Special Olympics Iowa has created a written housing policy that meets its unique housing needs, but also includes the minimum policy requirements outlined by the Risk Management and Insurance Force of Special Olympics International.

Please CLICK HERE to review our new Housing Policy.  Also when you renew or have a new athlete, please use the newApplication for Participation form, which includes a statement about the Housing Policy.

About Special Olympics Iowa

Special Olympics Iowa (SOIA) is a nonprofit organization that serves athletes with intellectual disabilities in all 99 counties of the state. Iowa has 11 areas throughout the state that serve approximately 12,000 athletes and Unified Sports Partners with more than 80 regional competitions and 8 statewide championships annually.

Since 1968, Special Olympics Iowa has been serving the needs of children and adults with intellectual disabilities by providing sports training and competition in 23 Olympic-type sports. These programs would not be possible without the generous support of more than 15,000 volunteers.

Through Special Olympics sports training and competition, children and adults with intellectual disabilities reach their POTENTIAL and experience INCLUSION in their communities EVERYDAY.
