Special
Olympics Iowa is a nonprofit organization serving Iowans with intellectual
disabilities since 1968. SOIA provides training and competitions in 22 sports
for more than 11,350 athletes and their Unified Sports Partners representing
each of Iowa’s 99 counties. For more information, please call 515-986-5520 or
visit www.soiowa.org.
The Iowa Law
Enforcement Torch Run is the single largest year-round fundraising event
benefiting SOIA. The intra-state relay
and its various fundraising projects have two goals: to raise money and
increase public awareness for the athletes of SOIA. Each year, more than 500 officers in Iowa run
more than 400 miles carrying the Flame of Hope through the streets of their
home towns and deliver it to the SOIA State Summer Games in Ames, Iowa, in May.
