On April 5, Special Olympics Iowa (SOIA) hosted the 11th annual Polar Plunge in Ames, giving participants a chance to have fun while supporting SOIA. Over five hundred plungers jumped into Iowa State University's Lake LaVerne. Each plunger raised a minimum of fifty dollars and teams were encouraged to wear costumes to add to the festivities.
Before the plunge, there was a brief program featuring Rich Fellingham, President/CEO of Special Olympics Iowa, and Kim Lively, Special Olympics Iowa athlete and Global Messenger from Ames. The Polar Plunge raised over $33,000, setting a new record!
